The heart of a good gaming pc is the graphics card. So what are you running, is it overclocked, how hot does it get and more to the point, are you happy with it!
My oldest cards now unused are an MSI FX5900XT and a Gigabyte 7900GT. Then came my Asus 8800GT with Zalman V1000 HS and fan still going strong in my daughters gaming pc.
My previous card was the Peak Radeon HD4890 with Accelero Twin Turbo cooler, overclocked by me to 940 mhz. It's a stormer of a card still kicking ass today in my sons pc. The main downside is the heat it kicks out. It idles around 70C and if you run a GFX test program like Furmark it will top out at an eye watering 120C. Seems to take the heat though.
Accelero Twin Turbo cooler with 90cm fans
My latest card is the MSI 460GTX Cyclone, not currently overclocked cause it runs superb as standard. Huge silent fan, idles around 40C when my case isn't chilled and doesn't get much hotter than 60C. Chill the case and it idles at 25C, peak 40C. Very happy with this card and can't see the need to upgrade for a good few years yet.
So what are you running? Piccys and overclocks...?

Between ATI and Nvidia, i've used both and i've got to agree with liam, my Radeon HD4890 is a bloody good card and can handle the latest games no problem but the ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center were buggy and poo.
Never had a problem installing and updating Nvidia drivers at all. If i was going to buy another card today, it would definately be an Nvidia. Never the latest ones though, way to expensive. Something that came out 6 or 12 months ago will get you an excellent card at a bargain price.

I always update to the latest available drivers, ALWAYS! Catalyst Center is a pile of dog turd for overclocking your card.
What i mean by ATI drivers being crap, just put in a search and see how many people complain about them!

Scarecrow, you were saying your graphics were buggering up on CoD WaW the other day. That's the drivers for you, not your card. Your 4890 should absolutely nail ALL Call of Duty games on maxed out settings. My 4890 does in my sons pc, overclocked and stock settings. They just run extremely hot. And as for messing with ati software, the whole point of a decent driver is to install and forget about it, not mess about with it to get it to play nice with your gfx card.
Nvidia drivers are straight forward, no pissing about. Install and go. Never had a single problem with nvidia card or driver or overclocking software.
Westy what temps does your gfx card and pc run at? Was your 9800 overclocked? They were a very good card in their day, still got my 8800gt going strong overclocked. Just need to watch the temps.
